We have taken a number of steps to ensure we are as sustainable as possible, with the resources we have. And as we grow we will always continue to strive to improve wherever we can. Some of the steps we've taken so far include:
- We plant 1 tree for every order we receive. At the time of writing this post we have already planted 12,872 trees, something we are incredibly proud of.
- We fund a further 2 trees per employee and fund carbon avoidance schemes for a further 0.3334Tonnes of CO² avoided per month per employee. At the time of writing we have avoided 95.41Tonnes of CO², the equivalent of 236,712miles of driving in a diesel vehicle.
- We only use detergents and brands which are making an active effort to themselves be sustainable and limit their impact on the environment. This includes Earth Breeze, Persil, Vanish, Lenor and Kirkland.
- We recycle and reuse almost everything we use, ensuring as little as possible is ever sent to landfill.
- We use highly efficient machines and lower wash and dry temperatures as standard to reduce our energy usage and therefore minimise the carbon footprint of each wash. Nearly 60% of all energy used in the washing cycle is used heating the water to unnecessary temperatures, when most modern detergents are just as effective at 30°. Worse still, by using higher temperatures it also damages the fibres and fan cause distortion of the fabrics. Therefore, lower temperatures equal clean clothes, that last longer and you'll be doing less damage to the environment! A win, win, win in our books!
- We don't use any single use plastics and actively encourage people to use their own reusable bags by offering a 20p discount for the privilege. Each year we typically use less than 50 carrier bags and most of those are still being used by repeat clients!
- We hope one day soon to be able to afford an electric van to reduce our road emissions.
